raname hdd on Mac OS X 10.6.8

i have renamed a shared hard drive on our Mac OS X server ver 10.6.8.

our mac users are no longer able to mount the drive, if i revert to the original name mounting is successful once again.

I need to be able to rename this drive and mount.

any assistance would be appreciated.
