Redirected “My Documents” folder – Laptop users

Does anyone know of performance or functional issues when redirecting a “laptop” users “My Documents” folder to their network home folder?
A little concerned with laptop users because they can be remote over a slow or unreliable network connection (VPN, Remote Desktop, etc.).
