I am working in a Windows 2003 Server R2 / Windows XP client environment
I’ve recently established a VPN connection with the server which works just fine as far as the file sharing is concerned.
FYI: my port 1723 is mapped on the router for VPN so that it forwards all the VPN requests to the server
Also, I have my remote desktop configured as well which is working fine.
FYI: I’ve mapped port 3389 on the router to forward all RDP requests to the server
I am using a Linksys WRT54G router.
Here’s my concern:
What I am wililng to do is use Remote desktop only through VPN. ie, here’s what I am expecting to see:
First I should dial my VPN connection and once it is established, I should be successfully abe to establish the remote desktop connection with the server.
In my case, I am able to establish the remote desktop connection with and without establishing the VPN connection.
In short, If I try to open up the remote desktop connection using the ISP assigned public IP address without establishing the VPN connection, the server or router is letting me do that. Whereas I dont want that to happen. I am expecting to see that: I should get the access to remote desktop connection only when my VPN connection is established and not otherwise.
I think that I’ve skipped or missed an important step due which this is not happening.
I would highly appreciate your help if you could guide me through the correct procedure to achieve this.
Thanks
