Removable Drives on a network?

I was curious about an issue and need some advice.
I have a home network I’m building with 4 desktop computers and two notebooks. If I use a removable hard drive (i.e. a flash drive) for network document storage and try to take it with me when I travel, am I going to cause further complications for myself?
