Removing a Win2k Server Certificate Authority

I’ve got a mixed win2k/2k3 server environment with 2 windows 2k3 domain controllers and 1 windows 2k domain controller. I’d like to demote the 2k DC but it has a certificate authority installed on it and I can’t for the life of me determine what it is being used for. The CA snapin shows that each of the domain controllers have an issued certificate from this CA, but those are the only issued certs.

Is it safe to revoke each of the certs issued to the domain controllers and uninstall the CA or is a CA required for proper domain operation? The only other servers we’ve got running are file/print and blackberry servers.

Any help would be appreciated.
