removing non-existing domain name item from list of domains

Initially we had our active directory go down and we have decided to re-create it from scratch to be able to do some changes. THe problem is that the old domain name is still listed when you try to browse the network, although there are no resources in it. The new Active directory domain is perfect but I would like to permanently remove the old domain name from the list. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
