OS Persecution is a prevalent problem. Quite often, I’m frustrated (usually only temporarily) in my attempts to install software on my “alternative workstation OS”. It shouldn’t be this way. The core kernel is darn-near identical, but the software cries when I try the install, requiring small to massive workarounds. This time, I’m stuck.
My name is Dean, and I use Windows Server^H^H^H^H^H^HWorkstation 2003.
(Didn’t have any other legit copies of Windows available, so I figured what the heck.)
So here’s my dilemma. I’m trying to install a CAB-based InstallShield 10 installer on my Server 2003 machine, but it won’t take. I’ve used Uniextract, and have searched fruitlessly through the package to find any sort of script.
I’ve got the files, but without the proper registry settings and such, it’s useless to me.
HALP!
Important Notes:
CAB-based. Not MSI. Harder to modify.
I can and have extracted the cabs via Uniextract.
I found the DLL that does the checks, but I’m not entirely certain how to edit(replace?) it.
Weapons of Choice: XN Resource Editor, Notepad++, UniExtract.
