Reputation of universities and a Computer Science degree

by weberr . Updated 18 years, 4 months ago

Hello everyone,

I was thinking of going to get a degree in Computer Science, however this proves to be a lot harder than I thought it would, and I’m only in the process of making a selection …

The first problem is the kind of degree, there’s BSc, BEng, MSc, MEng and even MA.
I do not want to work as a programmer, I’ve tried it and I don’t like it, I want the opportunity to get a better paid position, which I need a good degree for.

So the first issue is, which degree to go for?

The next issue is the choice of university, and I would be glad if actually employers could respond to this and give me a bit of their opinion, share their procedures and knowledge. The universities I was primarily looking at are: Edinburgh, Warwick, Bristol, UCL and Imperial College.

I know they’re all high up in The Times’ Leaguetable, but in how far are the degrees from the universities recognised?
To put it simple. If I had the choice, which one would be the best choice in terms of the quality and recognition of the degree I’m getting?
I’m really just asking for advice which university would be the best choice.

I would really appreciate feedback.
Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Roger Weber
