Requiring Spanish as a Job requirement

by xnavydk . Updated 14 years, 2 months ago

You know what grinds my gears?

If you browse job boards, and want ads in the paper. You will see numerous postings that one requirement that makes you move on to another posting is “Applicant must be able to read and speak Spanish” or “Must be able to Speak Spanish”. Many people would be eligible for that position if that one sentence was removed. I understand the company may have dealing with a large number of Spanish speaking customers or even employee’s (what? require the employee to speak English?). I still feel that it should be illegal and unfair to prospective applicants that do not meet those requirements that are otherwise qualified and want the job.

I would still apply and interview. Then when they say you are qualified, but sorry you don’t speak Spanish. Sue them for unfair hiring practices especially if they have Spanish speaking employees.

you know what also grinds my gears?

Pinheads who drive around with their fog lights on all the time. Those are not “extra” lights. They are called fog lights for a reason.
