Resolving mail.domainname.com to exchange instead of router admin

When within the LAN, mail.domainname.com resolves to the modem/router’s login screen instead of the exchange server’s login.

We have a laptop with Outlook that we want it to work within the LAN and WAN without having to switch between mail.domainname.com (external access) and mail.domainname.local (internal access).
