Restore email from Exchange 2000 to 2003

Hello Intelligent People !

I got such a good response last time, I thought I’d post again.
I’ve been tasked to restore lost email from previous years. The problem is they were running on two different flavors of Microsoft Small Business Server.

Environment:
My customer was previously running Exchange Microsoft SBS 2000 (SP4), backup exec 9.1 to a DAT-40 tape, on HP Proliant DL360.
This server has currently been demoted to (non-AD) server, and is part of the current domain.

They upgraded in ’06 to Exchange 2003 on SBS 2003 (SP1), LTO tape backup using NTBackup on Proliant DL380. Currently the AD

Problem:
I’m able to see individual mailboxes in BE 9.1 on the Exchange 2000 backup, when I try to restore to Exchange 2003 mail box of same account. I get BE error “unable to attach to drives”. I have domain admin rights, and can browse ok. I have RANT32 installed on my SBS2003 server.

Has anyone been successful doing this? I’m looking at Recovery Storage Group docs MS KB 824126, veritas 264815.

I believe that there are different database formats between 2000 and 2003. I was hoping it would just let me do a quick restore of indiviual mails.

Thanks
