I have a 30 user LAN/WAN, which is randomly kicking users off, and doing minor “wierd” things, which requires the switches/routers to be reset. After which, the users are fine for a day or two… then it starts all over again.
The building was wired prior to my arrival as IT person. After checking with a cable tester, and getting a “reverse pair” error code, I pulled the patch panels to find that ALL pairs on ALL patch panels are reversed, while the terminated RJ45 are properly wired for CAT5b. Now.. I realize this can/will cause problems on the LAN.
My question is this: Can someone give my a technical definition of WHAT EXACTLY happens to data in this situation ?
Im trying to justify a re-wire to the site owner, and would like some more technical ammo.
Thanks.
