Router with internal modem

I currently have a 3 computer home network connected via a hub, running ADSL from an internal modem on the server(using WinGate software). I would like to switch the hub to a router, but am wondering if I have to have an external modem to accomplish this.

If I can use an internal modem with the router, how would I configure the connection?
