1) How do you register your Domain Name Server with Internic, so you can support your own domain names as if you were your own ISP?
2) Is it necessary to register your DNS with internic to use them as your primary and secondary DNS on your domain name registration?
3) Can you, register your DNS with internic or use your own DNS (as Primary and Secondary), using the domain name(s) your DNS is to “support” without having that Domain listed at another DNS server (such as your ISP’s). An example is, NS1.”yourweb”.com when the Domain you wish to support is “yourweb”.com (without having that Domain listed at another DNS server).
4) How important or what advantages do you get when you have your DNS with an NT domain equal to the web domain name (ie “yourweb.com”).
I think I know the answers to all but the first question but would like some input from those who have done this before. I am running my own beta network at home and have run into a problem with my domain name support at one of my ISP’s. I had to change my domains ip address and the ISP has had my web domain down for 2 weeks because their customer support can’t figure out the difference between DNS name listing and web/email forwarding. So, I am looking into using my own DNS servers to support my domain names and ip addresses. Before I change my primary and secondary DNS at internic I would like some advice from someone who has some experiance here. I already use my own DNS for intranet services.
