We’re implementing SAP R/3 and we’re having a problem printing. All we have at this location is software clients, and we connect over the WAN to the database. I mention this because I don’t know if it relevant to the problem or not.
Our newer multifunction devices output without any problem. We have a couple of HP LaserJet 4’s that we pushed into service when unanticipated needs arose. Occasionally, usually after we haven’t sent output to these printers for several hours or overnight, the display on the printer shows “PC – LOAD A4”. However, none of the jobs are formatted for A4, only Letter. If you reset the printer to clear the first job, subsequent jobs in the queue print successfully until the printer sits idle again.
One printer is attached to an LPT port, the other is connected to the network with an Extended Systems Pocket Print Server.
Has anyone seen this? Alternatively, would someone printing from R/3 over a WAN please recommend a medium-speed (20 ppm) desktop laser printer? I have a list of printers recommended by SAP, but the LJ 4 is on it and they aren’t cutting it. I’d like to hear from someone with real world experience instead of just picking another printer from the list and hoping.
