SAP Resource Issues on Windows 98 Laptop

by michael salsbury . Updated 23 years, 11 months ago

Our organization has implemented the SAP GUI on Windows 98 laptops. After a recent upgrade to Dell Latitude C610 laptops, the GUI stopped working, giving resource errors. After some research, I learned that the problem seemed to be limited space in the System Arena. Using the Win98 Advanced Config utility I limited memory from 512MB down to 384MB, which alleviated this resource problem.

Another problem has since appeared. While it is possible for staff to launch SOME applications at thesame time as SAP (4.6D, BTW) they seem to be unable to launch ACT 2000 (commercial contact management tool) or Excel 97 (part of MS Office) at the same time as SAP. Since they often need to be able to cut/paste between these, this is a big problem.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem to this (or perhaps this same one)? If so, how were you able to resolve it? If you haven’t seen this or a similar problem, any ideas you might have are of course welcome.
