SATA Drive size limits on Dell SC420 Server?

by robo_dev . Updated 15 years, 1 month ago

My old Dell SC420 needs more disk space.

When it was made, the largest SATA drive they offered was 250GB for that machine. I was looking at adding a pair of 1TB SATA drives.

I know there used to be all sorts of issues with larger PATA drives not being recognized properly….is this a likely problem with this new-ish (2005) Dell server?

I would assume that all SATA interfaces are alike? The server has two SATA 150 ports on the mobo. (SATA 1.0 1.5 GBs).

So if I get a SATA 3 or even SATA 6 drive, it will work,no? (Obviously won’t get same throughput).
