sata hdd problem

i have an asus p4v8x-x mobo and i have been using ide hdd. but i have just bought a sata hdd to gain more capacity and i got the error hardware initiate failed,please check device after plugging it into sata1 port on my mobo!!!Any help would be greatly appreciated
