Satellite as Internet backup

We are looking for an Internet connectivity to solution as a backup in case of loss of our T1 connections.

As the company is in a secluded valley, surrounded by trees, wireless is not a viable solution.

Does anyone out there use a stable satellite connection for business purposes? I have read that latency could be a problem, and that spoofing techniques to counteract this problem wil not work on IPSec VPN connections.

I am mainly concerned about the effects of inclement weather – being in New England we are affes=cted by heavy rainstorms in the winter, rain in Spring.

Advice on provider and type of plan would be an added bonus.
