I am hoping someone may shed some light on this problem.
Overview:
We have had to carry out a Disaster Recovery of our SBS 2003 server (runs – AD, & Exchange) and has a Windows 2003 Terminal Server communicating with the SBS.
Due to the unthinkable happening we have had to build a new server, thankfully due a good backup strategy we can carry out a DR restore of SBS 2003 to a similar system, not the Original System the backup was from (but Identical Mother Board, CPU, & RAM config with similar RAID & HDD config). The Restore was successful.
BUT the Terminal Server can no longer locate or communicate with the SBS 2003 server when trying to log onto the Domain.
This is what I have done so far, I can ping the from the SBS 2003 to the Terminal Server, but I am unable to ping to Ping from the Terminal Server to the SBS 2003, I receive an unable to locate host. But I am able to ping to the Gateway.
The SBS 2003 is able to ping the Gateway as well as gain access to the Internet.
I have tried removing the Terminal Server from the Domain as well as remove the Terminal Server from AD and try and re-add the Terminal Server to the Domain, unsuccessfull – unable to locate or communicate with the host.
Looking at the ipconfig /all the information is correct, eg
SBS 2003
IP Address 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.253
DNS Server 192.168.1.1
Primary Wins 192.168.1.1
Terminal Server
IP Address 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.253
DNS Server 192.168.1.1
Primary Wins 192.168.1.1
The only thing I haven’t done yet is try and change the host name of the terminal server and try to connect?
Does anyone have any ideas about this or what I should do now, I am wondering if I have to reinsatll the SBS 2003 OS instead of running the DR?
Would the likelyhood of carrying out the DR to recreate the SBS 2003 server that it would cause problems with the Terminal Server being able to see, locate and or communicate with the SBS server? I am starting to feel rather desperate because of this problem.
I am working on this after hours in another location so responding to specific questions may be delayed slightly.
