I’ve set up a small network for a law firm, SBS2003, 4 clients running Vista Business, couple of shared folders on server, no other network services running. Everything is working fine. They have just got a new software package (LEAP Documents and Accounting – Client/Server software, keeps all case files, documents, time, billing, etc). Installed on server and running, no problem. Installed on client and running, problems. When the client machine starts the app, it communicates with the server using tcp connection, at this point the app on the client pc displays an error saying it cannot contact the server. After checking the server it cannot contact anything, all network activity is stopped/blocked. All client PCs still can talk to each other and the internet, however the server is completely cutoff. The only way to restore network to the server is by restarting it. The problem only appears when one of the client machines starts the program. The software company has its own people to install the software, who tried all day yesterday and couldn’t get it working, so they’ve given up now saying its my server problem not their software. As far as i can see the server is working fine, until that software starts on a client PC.
I need help.
