Hi Experts!
Ok, here goes. I have a current Windows 2003 SBS server configured, providing AD, DNS, DHCP & functioning as an exchange server for a small network. I want to rebuild this server from the ground up. Obviously, I can not use SBS Restore as it requires the same hardware and so on. Here’s what I know:
1) SBS 2003 must be the Primary Domain Controller whilst it exists
2) I have a Windows 2003 Server configured using DCPROMO to be a ‘secondary’ domain controller. I have read about transporting the 5 FSMO roles and have performed this. I know get the following error when running DCDIAG:
Doing primary tests
Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\TEMPSERVER
Starting test: Replications
[Replications Check,TEMPSERVER] A recent replication attempt failed:
From HOMER to TEMPSERVER
Naming Context: DC=SAMSDOMAIN,DC=LOCAL
The replication generated an error (1722):
Win32 Error 1722
The failure occurred at 2007-03-24 23:00.17.
The last success occurred at 2007-03-24 19:17.28.
15 failures have occurred since the last success.
[HOMER] DsBind() failed with error 1722,
Win32 Error 1722.
The source remains down. Please check the machine.
This is after the old ‘primary SBS server’ is shut down. Obviously, my new server ‘TEMPSERVER’ is still looking for the old server ‘HOMER’ what more do I need to do to make ‘TEMPSERVER’ my new primary domain controller.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
