SBS2003 VPN issue

by dominicryan2 . Updated 17 years, 3 months ago

Problem:
Our ADSL router has had to be replaced and after some reconfiguring of the hardware firewall we now have all services working again except for the VPN remote access.

It seems that it will connect to the VPN ok but after about 30 seconds it will stop communicating with the internal network but the VPN tunnel stays connected.
If you disconnect the VPN and re-connect it connects fine but there is no communication the the internal network still.
After running the remote access wizard it will do the same. connect and work for 30 secs then stop.

I have recently discovered a bit more information
Under:
Routing and Remote Access (Administrative Tools)
{SERVERNAME} – IP Routing – General
the interface named Internal seems to be the cause of my problem.

After running the RRAS wizard the Internal interface shows that it has no IP address and that it is Administratively down and non-operational

After connecting to the VPN the Internal interface then has an IP address which is consistent with the addressing of the internal network. At this point you can ping from Client-Server and Server-Client, this lasts about 30 seconds then stops. But the VPN tunnel stays connected, the Internal interface has changed it’s IP address to an Automatically assigned address of 169.254.x.x

Disconnecting and then re-connecting to the VPN has no effect and there is no communication as the IP address stays in this unwanted subnet.

The only way to regain VPN access is to run the RRAS wizard or restart the RRAS Service. but again this is only momentarily and the Internal interface takes a unique 169.254 address every time I tried this.

Any help would be appreciated.
