Scanner not working properly

I’m on XP. the Scanner is Canon 9900F.
The photo programme is “Photosuite 7 Roxio”
The Scanner has been working ok, with this setup
But now it won’t work straight away when i click
on Capture. It’s running showing hour glass,
but can take five minuets to connect!sometimes
never. I can trigger it by turning Scanner off
and on. But no always. Help!
