scanner software that can lookup a database field?

Any help is appreciated. I have a scanner and we scan claim numbers. The person enters the claim number as the file name.

The problem arises when they enter the wrong claim number by accident. So I was wondering if there’s any scanner software out there that can look at the claim number, and perform a database lookup and return some other information to verify the correct number. So for example, you enter the claim # as 123456, and before it scans the document, it looks up claim 123456 and gives a dialog box saying: “Claim #123456 belongs to SSN 123-45-6789” and then has “OK” or “Cancel” buttons.

I’ve been searching for something like this without having to create a custom solution. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!
