Scraner Problums

How do I get an HP scanjet 3200c to go into a Dell running Windows Xp Pro to run with no problums? I have downloaded the new drivers, but after installing the drivers and restarting the computer crashed. The org. is a non-profit and has a limated budget. They had enough money to get two new computers but no money to get any peripherals. It would be very helpful if someone could let me know or find a way to install the scraner without having it pc crash.
