SCSI Adapter for HP Ext Dat Tape Drive

I just bought an external HP Surestore DAT 40 tape drive. And I have a Windows 2000 server with 1 Ultra 2 SCSI Adapter. My question is can the tape drive use the same scsi adapter as the hard disk? Do I need to buy a separate scsi adapter for my tape drive?
