SCSI error

I have a Sony SDT10000 tape drive on a SCSI controller. The tape backup failed to run. I restarted the backup, and eventually received the error 11, “driver detected a controller error on \Device\SCSI PORT 1”. I use Brightstor for backup software. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong, and what I can do to fix this?
