SD card not recognized

Some of our staff use SD card-based digital cameras. Recently some pictures were taken, and after trying to put the SD into a computer, the computer didn’t recognize it.

and by not recognize it i mean it doesn’t even register as being inserted into the SD slot. after trying the SD back in the camera again, it tells us the card is unformatted. is there any way to recover any of these images?
