Section Breaks

by reneetyler . Updated 17 years, 5 months ago

OS is XP SP3, Word 2003

I have a mailing which a merge of data dumped out of an Oracle database. The data is for mailing labels. Word automatically assigns “section breaks” rather than “page breaks”.

Word shows all the converted data to be on page 1. Page 1 shows 59 “sections”. In reality, this document is 59 pages long but again, Word is showing everything as being on “page 1”.

I do not know why this happens and to this point, it has not negatively affected me.

However, I needed to add additional addresses to the document. When I added a new section break, Word gave me new page. No matter what type of section break I insert, Word forces a new page. So I have 59 sections on page 1 and then I begin pages 2, 3, etc.

Here is the kicker. When I try to preview or print the added data which is showing to be on pages 2 and higher, my data mysteriously disappears. It is on my screen and remains when I close and reopen the document but I cannot view it in print preview nor print it.

I have tried removing all section breaks with find/replace with no success. I have searched through “options” to see if I somehow was hiding the data and I did not find a solution.

I understand that this may be the translation between Oracle and Word but have even tried starting a new document and copying/pasting and get the same result.

I am absolutely stumped so any suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you.
