Security of a small network

I am an Administrator of 16 PCs’, these machines are connect to a switch,to the internet.
i have tried to manage the network remotely from any of the machine but i was unable to.
what should i do inorder to be able to control these machines in a local network, for good administrating.I would like to have control of the network usage, hardware inventory, and support notification on one of the machines.
