Security Patching Neglected Remote Servers.

by bizzo . Updated 18 years, 3 months ago

I’ve been tasked with applying security patches to 12 servers. They’re a mixture of Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003. I have no information on service pack levels.

All the servers are on a private network with no internet access. Some are in a domain, some are in workgroups. I am able to copy files to the servers from a machine I have physical access to. I have no physical access to any of the servers.

According to the documentation, the last time these servers were patched was September 2006! The newest patch on both 2000 and 2003 servers is MS06-053, so there’s going to be quite a few to apply.

The question is, how can I download every security patch from Oct 06 onwards for both these OS’s?

I could download the monthly ISOs from MS, and just copy the patches I need. Or I could run MBSA (or whatever the new version’s called) for each type of server, export the report and download the patches singly. Or if anyone has any better ideas?

Thanks all.

Andy.
