Self repairing hard disk?

by etord . Updated 20 years, 3 months ago

Hi, my abused asus laptop’s HD suddenly failed weeks ago, without s.m.a.r.t. warnings. Horrible click ang clank noises came out when trying to access heavily damaged sectors. Thousands of bad sectors occurred over the whole drive with almost regular intervals, always getting worse. Then, while left scanning the surface for a file (5 days and nights, continuously, with click and clank and overheating) it suddenly began to work fine again. All bad sectors gone, everything worked perfectly. Only, on boot, s.m.a.r.t. warned “bad, backup and replace”. Then again, weeks later, after another emergency shutdown due to overheating (always my fault), even the smart got ok.
Now, while i’m waiting for the day IT will state “I’m alive”, can anybody suggest me if it’s ok to keep on using it or, if not, how to explain what happend to tech support (warranty still valid!), since there’s no evidence of the problem occurred?
