Sending repeat emails

A friend of ours that is a computer novice has AVG virus software and is having a problem with Outlook Express. When she sends an e-mail it “sits” in her out box and then sends multiple, identical e-mails to the same address. I believe it is either a virus or spy program, can anyone help?
