Server 2003 R1 domain, attempting to add R2 domain controller

by thrawn717 . Updated 18 years, 10 months ago

Hi All,

I’m hoping someone here will be able to help me. I have a test bed domain that I am attempting to create for the purposes of Implementing Exchange 2007. The Domain Controller (name: Palapatine)is run Windows Server Standard 2003 SP2, and the other computer is running R2 version of Server 2003 (name: Vader). When I attempt to join Vader to the Domain as a Domain Controller it gives me the following error:

“The Active Directory (AD) Installation wizard cannot continue because the forest is not prepared for Windows Server 2003. Use Adprep command line tool to prepare both the forest and the domain. For more information about using Adprep, see AD help.”
“The Version of the AD schema of the source forest is not compatible with the version of AD on this computer.”

I am testing it this way because this is the way that my production domain is running R1 SP2 version of Server 2003 and I don’t have enough licenses to upgrade all my servers and I can’t get anymore.

I have tryed finding information on this and all I come up with is information on how to upgrade from Server 2000 to 2003. Will those steps work for this kind of setup as well?

Thanks
James
