server conection

is it neccesary to connect the bdc to the hub during the installion , or not.
I have had hard time for my bdc to find the pdc on the network , I was connectd to the network from wall connection that serve a workstation and I’m sure that IP was ok and the domain name was ok,
any idea will be great.
