Server Drive Imaging

I’ve had a Win 2003 Server crash which contained a share drive. The crash was due to a raid error, and one of our less knowledgeable personell decided to rebuild the raid from scratch, then formatted and reloaded Windows. since the longer this server operates, the less likely we are going to be able to recover the data, will imaging the drive work? I didn’t think it would capture the data from before the reload, but I’m looking for a definite answer on it.
