Server Freezing on re-boot

On some of the servers in my remote offices I have a problem with them freezing on the screen that says “Please wait while system writes unsaved data to disk.” It just stays there until I manually re-boot (Fondly known here as “Giving it the Finger”)

Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to prevent it from happening?
