Setting up a Proxy server on Server 2003?

by mikenye . Updated 17 years, 4 months ago

Hi all,

We have just had a major problem at my workplace with our Redhat Webserver going into meltdown! This server also had a proxy server that distributed internet to around 10 client machines.

I have been tasked as priority to get these machines back on the Web by cease work monday! We are unsure as to when the Redhat machine will return from repair.

The way I plan to do it is by using a HP server we use on our development network, this has server 2003 installed. The problem I have is that the server only has one ethernet conection that goes to the distribution switch (only 4 clients on the Development network).

Im looking at as an emergency temp measure buying a usb-ethernet convertor then installing a Proxy server software (I have the Squid settings from the Redhat system to work with).

Im a little confused as to how to get this to the internet clients?

I have 1 connection to a deveopment network distribution switch and 1 from the incoming internet from the fibre router. Will I have to add the internet clients to the development network active directory before I can use the Proxy settings? (which I suspect ill have to do)
or can I just plug the clients into the development network switch and use the proxy settings?

Its been a heavy week and my brains running a little slow….:o)

Thanks for any help/advice

Mike
