Setting up “emergency” dial-up internet access on a networked NT machine. The machine runs Windows NT 4 workstation, service pack 6a. It operates in a domain environment. It is not having problems accessing the LAN. The problem it is having is with it’s dial-up connection.
THe steps I have followed are:
1) Set up no network hardware profile
2) Logged in using that profile. Installed Dial-Up Networking. Installed the modem. Created the RAS connection.
3) In Network settings, disabled binding to NIC for the Remote Access Service. Binding to WAN wrapper kept.
4) Logged in with local user account. Get connection. Can?t access webpages or email. IE simply sits there trying to connect to the proxy server.
The modem is connecting ok. Once I log off and log back in using the “normal” hardware profile, the network connection is fine.
