Setup a VPN between two different subnets on same physical LAN

Hi,

I have my computer on LAN with the subnet 192.168.8.xxx & my friends computer is also on the same physical LAN (separated by i guess a switch or a router) but on different subnet of 192.168.7.xxx . Our Internet proxy server is on 192.168.15.xxx & our default gateways are 192.168.7.1 & 192.168.8.1 respectively.

We do not have any windows domain system. I am trying to be the server running windows 7 & he is the client using windows Vista.

I would like to establish a VPN for the purpose of playing games. I have tried to establish a VPN connection between him and me using the windows VPN with just the basic settings (no tinkering involved ). However it gets stuck on Verifying username & password and doesn’t connect.

Could you suggest any settings i might need to configure on this ? i tried to search on forums but a majority were for VPN connection on the Internet, mine is on same lan but different subnets and i couldnt find anything specifically to this.

Thanks
