Shared files in network

I have installed a simple wireless netgear network between my PC and a laptop, both with XP professional.

The laptop now has access to web, emails etc. but, despite going through the wizard etc. it does not register the shared files on the pc, even though all appears enabled. Standard Windows firewall. Any suggestions
