SharePoint 2007 Standalone Configuration

by 808rails . Updated 18 years, 6 months ago

Just wondering if anyone has any best practice methods for installing SharePoint 2007 with a SQL 2005 back-end all on a standalone Windows 2003 Server. We are purchasing a HP DL380 which can support up to 8 SAS drives.

Specifically, I am concerned with:

– What RAID configuration to use and how to maximize drive efficiency
– Where to install temp data, DBs, search log, trans logs, etc.
– And any additional suggestions and comments for a SharePoint standalone install would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve used HP’s sizing and configuration tool which suggests using a HP MSA70 smart array with 24 drives in conjunction with the DL380, however this is just not feasible as it is beyond our budget. So, we are left to deal with 8 drives only.

Much thanks in advance for any advice given.
