Sharing Bandwidth on LAN

If I connect 4 PCs on a simple LAN using only a switch, with no server or bandwidth manager, to share an incoming internet connection, being fed to the switch directly, will the bandwidth available to each user be mathematically split, regardless of other users using the network, or will it be split depending on number of users online at a given particular time, using the internet?
