sharing files between 2 buildings

by cudmasters los . Updated 17 years, 5 months ago

i need several users in 1 building to be able to acces a terastation in another building.

remote desktop will only alow 1 user at a time if i set up a dedicated computer that is mapped to the terastation, or am I wrong?.

i kinda know about vpn, i can connect 2 computers together, however i can’t see any files, and i have researched for 2 weeks on line how 2 do this, but everybody’s answers are always leaving something out. I don’t understand this. I gues i am looking for step by step process on how to do this. After researching for 2 weeks, i cannot believe that i still don’t have an answer if you have to use software to share files across the net or not. Frustration.

can only a server allow multiple users to access what i am trying to do. In other words can i have multiple users connect to a single computer at 1 time that accesses the terastation?

Why can i not see other folders when connecting a vpn on the inside, it says connected, but when i double click the icon all i get is the properties.

do i have to set the router up on each building to share files, i am assuming so. duh

i really don’t think that it is that hard, once you get it set up, but when u know there are so many variables involved, and you have tried literly at least a hundred times, and it still doesn’t work, then you start to think everything you are doing is wrong.

to start, i set a computer up as a vpn server using the wizard, choosing the advanced tab as described on a google forum, then using the other computer sitting right next to me, using the same forum directions but to connect, using the wizard i got it connected. but i can’t see anything.

I have even gotton into a router off site, set up pptp, port 1723, and the computers ip address which i statically set. can’t connect, i know this is a little diffrent cause i am going thru routers.

Well before that i remoted into that computer and set it up as a vpn server.

OK after all of this unneccasary explaing, what the heck do i need to do? and why is it not working, can it work, other options, besides antenna boosters which would work much easier. but at this point in time i want to know how to share files using a vpn.

Thanks
whew
