Sharing Internet Through Dialup

by wizardzip1 . Updated 19 years, 5 months ago

ANYBODY out there know how to get a dialup connection to share a laptop with a desktop on the Internet???

I have AOL…I know it can be done and I’ve seen it done with other dialups before. I do not mind that the host computer is the one that logs on…only that a secondary browser can access. Maybe it has something to do with a proxy server…and I understand peer to peer on a CAT5 or CAT6…but how do I set that up?

I KNOW most of you will suggest – get broadband or a cable modem. OK, granted…I understand that, and routers except a cable modem. However, the network setup in XP ASKS if the desktop is going to allow other computers to ACCESS the Internet through it as host, without regard to connection speed…so I know it can be done. File sharing works fine, and I do not wish to upgrade the connection speed on the computer of interest.

I’ve tried Ethernet switches 10/100 and peer to peer. Any suggestions? – Tom (curious in CA)
