Simple junk-spam mail filter system for those with multiple email addresses

by deadly ernest . Updated 16 years, 11 months ago

I’ve my own domain name and a number of email addresses I use for various reasons. The emails at my domain are set only to receive emails, not send. The same with one specific Gmail account.

It’s these email addresses that I regularly use on the Internet. And, surprise, surprise, it’s these that get the majority of the spam and junk mail. What is interesting is the large amount that comes to me with those mail addresses as the sender’s address. I’ve recently set my junk filters on these accounts to delete anything with that address as a sender without downloading it, and had a huge reduction in junk and spam hitting my in box.

I already have the mail going to the Domain host, filtered there, sent to my ISP email address, filtered there, then into my mail client for another filter, so I only see about thirty a week. But this latest change cuts it down to only two or three a week. All the junk filters are set to delete.

The Gmail account has about three or four hundred a week in its junk box, but I rarely check them as my mail client is set to pick up the mail from the Gmail account for me, and runs it through the local filters too.

All out going mail is through either a Gmail account or the ISP mail server, and that address isn’t advertised.

This is a simple filter system that anyone can set up for themselves, especially the part using the Gmail or a Yahoo mail account as the main advertised address. And it save money on fancy filter software.

Does anyone else use a cheap filter system that can be recommended to others to use as well.
