I’m having some cooling issues with a server at my new job. I have a single rack server. It has no side panels and is in a sealed room with 2 small A/C units. The previous network admin here had the A/C units pointing at the back of the servers which didn’t help the cooling issue. I turned the server rack around and significantly increased the efficiency of the A/C units.
Today I walked into the office and found out that last night around 10pm, the circuit had blown which the A/C units were on. The servers were at about 116 degrees F this morning. Apparently this was a common problem in the past. I’m determined to eliminate this problem.
Is this an issue I should primarily look at getting an electrician to fix or should I work more on some passive exhaust cooling options in case of A/C failure… or both.
Also, any links to basic server room cooling design would be very helpful. My Google-fu only pulls up a list of rack and A/C products. I want to make sure that the room itself is designed for proper airflow as well as the rack.
