slide to unlock

I am replacing the broken screen on my Ipad3 and followed step by step. I now have the new screen attached (have NOT put screws back in for main screen) and turned on to make sure working. I push the round start button and it comes on fine, however I try to swipe the unlock screen and it is not unlocking. Did I not make a connection somewhere? Thanks!
