SLOW CONNECTION THR ‘ SWITCH

I am in big soup right now, just got myself a BEFSR81 and also a Switch.When I connect my Modem straight in to PC I can Stream vids wth ease,same is d case wth MODEM and RTR in bet’n.But as soon as I connect the Switch wth my RTR and Modem the Speed dips.Ip of my switch is 192.168.2.1 and of the RTR is 192.168.1.1 and it takes 16 hops to reach the destination site.Wat can be done?? All products are NEW!!!!!Plz dont suggest FIRMWARE.
